The New Jersey State AFL-CIO urges all affiliates to lend their support to our AFT brothers and sisters in West Virginia, who have been on strike for 10 days. The West Virginia state Senate turned its back on more than 33,000 teachers and school support staff by rejecting a pay-raise deal that the House of Delegates passed 98-1 and that the governor and union members support.
This strike goes far beyond ensuring quality education and middle class jobs for West Virginia families. In fact, this battle ties directly into the right-wing attacks all working families are experiencing and witnessed in the U.S. Supreme Court last week.
