Two important, pro-worker Unemployment Insurance bills supported by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO have been passed by the legislature and are on Governor Murphy’s desk.
First – thank you to the prime sponsors of A-3861, which provides unemployment benefits to workers on strike under certain circumstances. The prime sponsors are Assembly members DeAngelo, Giblin, Quijano and Senators Vitale and Gopal. Also, a thank you to all the Democrats that voted YES. Unfortunately, not a single Republican voted YES on this bill. If signed, New Jersey will be the third state in the nation to enact this law.
Second – A-3871, sponsored by Assemblymen Egan and Chiaravalloti and Senators Diegnan and Cruz-Perez corrects a flawed definition of “misconduct” that was used to routinely deny workers unemployment benefits. Again, a thank you to all the Democrats that voted YES. Unfortunately, not a single Republican voted YES on this bill either.
We respectfully ask Governor Murphy to sign these bills into law on behalf of New Jersey’s working families!
