Earlier this year, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO became the first in the nation to roll out the MiniVAN smartphone app for its labor walks statewide. Working throughout the summer, we continue to lay the groundwork so that we can achieve fully digital labor walks every weekend through Election Day.

On Tuesday, September 6th a training for Central Labor Council leaders and volunteers was held at IBEW 400 to familiarize everyone with the app itself and to discuss the new procedures involved in hosting a MiniVAN-powered labor walk. The State Federation has developed a host of resources including a walkthrough video, PowerPoint presentation, and highly detailed MiniVAN labor walk guide that clearly describes each of the coordinator roles.
The MiniVAN is an app that allows users to navigate a map of select union households and conduct labor walks directly from their smartphones. The app allows volunteers to record and immediately transmit the responses they gather from union household voters.
This revolutionary technology will make labor walks easier, faster, and more effective while ensuring that labor unions remain on the cutting edge of member-to-member outreach. The MiniVAN technology is not a question of if, but when. With the continued support of our affiliates, we are confident that New Jersey will once again lead the way to streamlining our political outreach and empowering working families.
