This Monday, March 19, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. the Assembly Labor Committee will be voting on the Janus bill (A-3686: Coughlin) and Equal Pay for Women bill (A-1: Lampitt). The New Jersey State AFL-CIO will testify on both bills, which reflect the core values of our labor movement and New Jersey working families, and we urge you to join us in support.
The Janus bill is designed to counteract the attacks on collective bargaining rights stemming from the U.S. Supreme Court case that was heard last month. While the final results of the case have yet to be determined, the proactive measures contained in this bill will help to safeguard the rights of all workers in New Jersey no matter the outcome of this case.
While the last eight years have been a setback in the fight for equal pay for equal work, our resolve is as strong as ever to achieve justice in the workplace. The Equal Pay bill, championed by Assemblywoman Lampitt, Senator Weinberg, and organized labor, is a concrete step in the right direction that will reposition New Jersey as a leader in the fight for equality and workplace fairness.
We thank the prime sponsors of each of these bills as well as our affiliates for their diligent efforts in shaping these policies. Given your continued support and testimony, we are confident in our ability to achieve a favorable outcome that advances a progressive agenda for our state.
