The state’s second labor-supported immigrant advocacy center opened Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth, as the result of a unique partnership between Union County and We Are One New Jersey, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping more than 400,000 legal immigrants living and working in New Jersey become U.S. citizens.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO Community Services Inc., a nonprofit agency of the state federation, has partnered with Hudson County to create the state’s first labor-led immigrant advocacy center, which will help thousands of legal immigrants achieve their American Dream of full citizenship and the right to vote.
The We Are One New Jersey Hudson County Center officially opened on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, with a kickoff ceremony attended by dozens of labor, political, civic and community leaders. In June 2013, the United States Senate voted 68-32 for a bipartisan compromise that would address our nation's long-standing immigration crisis. Unfortunately, Speaker John Boehner and the House Republicans have made a partisan decision to deny the bipartisan Senate bill an up-or-down vote. That decision is hurting the chances that we will see real, workable immigration reform by the end of the year.Read more
While the U.S. Senate passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill on June 27, 2013, with bipartisan support, the effort to create a roadmap to citizenship has come to a screeching halt in the Republican controlled House, and further action is not expected until after the August Congressional recess.Read more
