Reports from relief volunteers in Puerto Rico highlight the devastation of the hurricane. People have been left without access to food, drinking water, medical care and other basic necessities. Therefore, enough cannot be said for the hundreds of union volunteers who braved hazardous conditions to come to the aid of families during this dark hour.

Realizing what a taxing job this must have been, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO joined with affiliates this week to welcome our brothers and sisters back home. We want them to know that they are heroes, and at the same time, we will be there for them as they process their experience.

We also thank and recognize Port Authority PBA President Paul Nunziato and Port Authority officers for providing support so that we could welcome our brothers and sisters as soon as they stepped off the plane.

As always, we are so proud of the labor movement for all it does to strengthen our communities and to be there for families in times of need. Through solidarity, we show the best of what our nation has to offer.
