Q. My one vote doesn’t make a difference. Why bother?
A. Actually, one vote can and has won an election. A vote here and there puts candidates in office. By voting, your voice matters.
Q. I’ll be out of town on Election Day. Can I still vote?
A. Yes, by absentee ballot obtained through your County Election Board.
Q. Will I automatically be called for jury duty if I register?
A. No. In New Jersey, people are called for jury duty from the
Department of Motor Vehicle database.
Q. I just moved here; do I need to re-register?
A. Yes. When you move, you have to re-register to vote, even within the same town and election district.
Q I can’t remember when I last voted. Should I register again?.
A. Yes. New Jersey will purge all inactive voters from its voter files this year. If you have not voted recently, your name will be removed. Please register again.
Q. I don’t want to be a Democrat or a Republican; do I have to select a party affiliation?
A. No. Enrolling in a political party is a personal choice. However, you must be a party member to vote in a party’s primary election.
Q. I have a green card; can I vote?
A. No. You must be a United States citizen to vote.
Q. I was convicted of a felony a few years ago; can I vote?
A. Possibly, if your sentence is complete. Check with your parole or Probation officer.
Q. My name recently changed. Should I register?
A. Yes. You must register to vote using your legal name.
Q. I never voted before so I don’t know how to vote. How do I learn?
A. Voting is simple. County election board workers are available to instruct you at the voting site.
