Meet the Staff

 

OSHEP Co-Principal Investigators

 

Dr. Susan Schurman

Dr. Schurman is a nationally recognized expert for research and training in the field of OSH preventive intervention through workplace controls and job redesign as well as employee and management education and training.  She has extensive experience in curriculum development and training implementation. 

 

Dr. Adrienne Eaton

Dr. Eaton is the Chair of Labor Studies and Employer Relations and Director of the Labor Extension Program at Rutgers University.  She is also an expert in the peer-to-peer training methodology used in the OSHEP training.  She has been published in Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Labor Studies Journal, Advances in Industrial and Labor Relations and several book chapters.

 

OSHEP Program Director

 

Dr. Barry Schlegel manages the Rutgers University Occupational Safety and Health Education Program.  He is very well known and respected among the safety and health professionals throughout New Jersey and the tri-state area. His extensive list of previous responsibilities include working as a Consultant with Emilcott Institute and managing the UMDNJ School of Public Health Safe Schools Program.  Barry has 30 years of experience in occupational safety and health practice, training delivery, curriculum development, and program evaluation. 

 

OSHEP Program Coordinator

 

Komilla John, MPH-IH, has been the OSHEP Coordinator at the New Jersey State AFL-CIO since January 2008.  She joined the OSHEP staff in April 2006 as a Training Specialist.  She has previous experience as an OSHA Inspector, and as an Industrial Hygienist for a major public employees’ union in New York.  She has a Masters in Public Health with a major in Industrial Hygiene.

Bill Hartzell joined the OSHEP team at the New Jersey State AFL-CIO in October 2008.  He has over 10 years of experience as an OSHA outreach trainer, having worked most recently as an OSHA Instructor at IBEW Local 269 in Trenton, New Jersey.  His prior work experience includes working as a Safety Coordinator at the Logistics Management Office with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  He is certified as a CPR and First Aid Instructor by the American Red Cross.

 

Training Specialist

 

Ed Aldrich, joined the OSHEP team in September 2008.  He has over 10 years of experience as an OSHA outreach trainer, and has previously worked as a Project Manager with Construction Services before joining IBEW Local 269 as an OSHA Instructor in 2000.  He has numerous certifications along with great experience teaching occupational safety and health to a diverse audience.  He is also certified as a CPR and First Aid Instructor for the American Red Cross.

 

Curriculum Developer

 

Amy Bahruth, Curriculum Developer for Rutgers University OSHEP, holds a faculty position at Rutgers University, and is a Health and Safety Consultant for the American Federation of Teachers.  In addition to her experience in developing and teaching a wide variety of classes on occupational safety and health, she is the Health and Safety Chair of the Rutgers Labor Association.
