Emergency Response Support Network

The Emergency Response Support Network was created in response to a need recognized by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO in the aftermath of the World Trade Center Hurricane Katrina disasters.  The unprecedented nature and scope of these disasters mobilized rank and file union members, employers, business organizations and governmental agencies to collaborate and communicate in crises that presented multiple logistical and organizational challenges.  The New Jersey State AFL-CIO represents over 1 million workers in the state, with existing contracts and collective bargaining agreements with all major employers in the state.  This united movement consisted of community, labor, and environmental groups, that continue to advocate for better planning and response for disasters.
