Assembly Passes Paid Family Leave Legislation

We would like to thank members of the State Assembly that voted today in support of A-873 (Albano / Oliver), Paid Family Leave legislation. The Assembly passed the bill by a vote of 46-30-2-2, mostly along party lines, with Democrats supporting and Republicans opposing.

An amendment was offered to the bill that sought to exempt all employees of small business with less than 50 employees. That amendment was defeated, also mostly along party lines. Click here for a copy of the final vote.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts for posting this important pro-family bill and also thanks Assemblyman Nelson Albano and Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver for sponsoring the bill and for their strong leadership and dedication to this issue. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO also thanks all of our affiliates and partner organizations in the New Jersey Partnership for Working Families that participated in lobbying efforts in support of this important legislation.
