SENATE PASSES PAID FAMILY LEAVE LEGISLATION
We would like to thank members of the State Senate that voted today in support of S-786 (Sweeney / Buono), Paid Family Leave legislation. The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 22-16-2, mostly along party lines. All Democrats voted in favor except Senator Turner (D-15) who voted against the bill and Senator Rice (D-28) who did not vote. All Republicans voted against the bill except Senator Bill Baroni (R-14), who voted in support.
An amendment was offered to the bill that sought to exempt all employees of small business. That amendment was defeated, also mostly along party lines. To view the vote on the amendment, click here.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO also thanks all of our affiliates and partner organizations in the New Jersey Partnership for Working Families that participated in lobbying efforts in support of this important legislation.
