“Occupy Wall Street” Comes to New Jersey

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO Supports the Protesters in their Determination
To Hold Wall Street Accountable and Create Good Jobs.

File source: //commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Occupy_Wall_Street.jpgThe Occupy Wall Street protests that began on September 17, 2011 continue to grow and spread far beyond New York. Currently, there are more than 800 “Occupy Wall Street” protests occurring throughout the nation. The protesters are extremely diverse, from students concerned about mounting education costs, to workers concerned about job creation and America’s middle class seeking to have the wealthiest among us pay their fair share. The protesters fight is our fight, and we stand with them and join them.

Several national and international unions have endorsed the protests and many are participating in the demonstrations. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka is in New York City today to meet with Occupy Wall Street protesters and has issued statements in support.

Yesterday, protesters have begun to assemble in New Jersey as well. “Occupations” are occurring across the street from the State House in Trenton near the Veterans Monument and near the Goldman Sachs building in Jersey City. Although these New Jersey protests have started out small, they continue to grow and gain enthusiasm and more locations are being added.

If interested in participating and coming to the protests, please bring food and water. Additional information and specifics regarding locations can be found at www.occupywallstreet.org and www.occupytogether.org.
