New Jersey State AFL-CIO Hosts Senator Barack Obama
Trenton– More than 700 union members and their families from across New Jersey attended a 'town hall' forum with Presidential Candidate Barack Obama on May 14, 2007. The event, held at the War Memorial in Trenton, and hosted by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, was the third in a series of forums organized as part of the "Working Families Vote 2008" campaign. This campaign, launched in April, is designed to engage union members and their families nationwide in the AFL-CIO's presidential endorsement making process.
"Today Senator Obama had a chance to hear directly from New Jersey's working families," stated Charles Wowkanech, President of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO. "And what he heard is similar to what candidates have been hearing all over this country, America is no longer working for working families. However, what he has also learned, and saw from the enthusiasm in the crowd today, is that in 2008 the road to the White House goes right through the homes, worksites and union halls of working families who are ready to make a change."
