House Passes Jobs Bill
On Friday, May 28, 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the “Promoting American Jobs, Closing Tax Loopholes and Preventing Outsourcing Act of 2010” (H.R. 4213). The bill is supported by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO and passed by a vote of 215-204.
The bill includes the long-term extension of unemployment insurance (through Nov. 30, 2010), infrastructure spending to create much needed construction jobs, as well as pension relief. These provisions will be partially offset by closing the carried interest and foreign tax credit loopholes. New Jersey’s House Congressional Delegation voted as follows:
We would like to thank all the affiliated unions that have been lobbying in support of this important job creation legislation. Because the Senate has adjourned for Memorial Day recess, the bill will have to wait to be considered by the Senate. Therefore, the June 2 deadline for extending unemployment insurance benefits will be missed and checks may be interrupted.
