After Clearing House Committee “James Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act” Slated for Senate Hearings and House Floor Debate

The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the “James Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act” by a vote of 33-12 on Tuesday, with two Republicans voting in support of the bill. The program would provide $5.1 billion in funds to provide health care to thousands of 9/11 first responders and survivors who were sickened by the toxins during 9/11 rescue efforts. The bill would cover approximately 25,000 responders and 25,000 survivors from the 9/11 attack, which include police, firefighters, health care workers and construction workers.

We sincerely thank Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-06), who is one of the bills most committed proponents. Congressman Pallone is Chairman of the House Health Subcommittee and a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee. It is because of his efforts in these committees that this vital bill continues to advance.

The bill is now schedule to be debated by the full House and the Senate Health Committee has agreed to hold hearings on the legislation. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks all our affiliates for their grassroots action and Congressional Representatives who are working to support this vital bill.
