OSHEP Advisory Board Convenes
The Occupational Safety and Health Education Program (OSHEP) Advisory Board, made up of representatives of labor, business, academia, state and federal government, held a meeting on September 17, 2007. Twenty members of the Advisory Board listened as Carl Van Horn, Executive Director of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development, welcomed advisory board members to the new Heldrich Center in New Brunswick and reiterated the mission of the program in his opening remarks.
Ron Anderson, Program Director of Rutgers OSHEP, presented an overview of the tremendous progress made during the first year of OSHEP’s five year plan, which was previously developed by the Advisory Board. Mr. Anderson described advancement in the areas of increasing statewide awareness and participation in OSHEP’s programs; supporting New Jersey’s initiative on Security Awareness and Preparedness Training; and creating metrics to better measure program successes and access learning effectiveness.
Christine Rampolla, OSHEP Coordinator for the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, shared OSHEP’s upcoming training schedule with the Board, which includes direct training at Ferro Corporation, Hibrett Puratex, and Bostik, Inc. Additionally, Ms. Rampolla announced that this year’s OSHEP Conference will be held on February 21, 2008, and called upon the Board for their guidance on workshops to be held at the Conference.
After the official business of the meeting, the group heard a dynamic presentation from Bill Walsh, Director of Corporate Issues of PSEG, on the Global Warming Response Act. Mr. Walsh engaged the entire group on one of the most important issues of our generation, and an in-depth dialogue ensued.
