HISTORIC RALLY: Draws 35,000+ New Jersey Workers to Protest Gov. Christie Cuts

The street in front of the State House, normally bustling with cars and flurries of people, was transformed today into a river of union colors. At this historic rally, over 35,000 of New Jersey’s families, workers, union members, elected officials, and community leaders joined together to defend our state’s middle class, our shared values, and the fundamentals of our labor movement.

The message was clear that New Jersey families reject the Governor’s cuts and believe that to get our state back on track we have to support job growth and do more to help our state’s most vulnerable families.

It has been over 30 years since a rally of this magnitude was organized. In July of 1974, the streets of Trenton filled with at least 30,000 construction workers during the “march for jobs” organized by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO.

Today, all sectors of the labor movement came together and we displayed our enormous collective strength. This rally is only the beginning of our unified efforts as organized labor to oppose the Governor’s policies. Together, we demonstrated our renewed strength and resolve, to work towards fair and sensible solutions for New Jersey.

This rally would not have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of affiliated unions and community groups throughout the state, and we cannot thank you enough for your hard work and efforts.
