Be a Part of the NALC National Food Drive

On Saturday, May 8, 2010, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will hold a food drive, and you can be involved without ever having to leave your home.

Here’s how it works: to contribute to the food drive, simply place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before the letter carrier delivers the mail on Saturday, May 8th. Any food placed outside of your mailbox will then be brought by the carrier to the postal station, sorted and delivered by union volunteers to area food banks.

With double digit unemployment food banks are experiencing an unprecedented crisis. Food requests have risen 20 to 25 percent for each of the past six months while donations continue to decrease. Your help is crucial to maintaining a supply of food to support families hit hard by the economy.

Last year, participants in the food drive donated a total of 73.4 million pounds of food which helped to feed an estimated 30 million people including 12 million children.

We hope that if you are able, you will find the time to make a donation to this very worthy cause supported by the NALC, AFL-CIO Community Services network, United Way Worldwide, and the nation’s food bank network.
