School Board Elections Boost Labor Candidate Victories Past 600

Voters went to the polls on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, to elect members of their Board of Education. School Boards establish local policy, award construction contracts, establish PLA’s and also act on issues related to employee contracts. These issues are of particular interest to New Jersey’s working families represented by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is proud of all the rank-and-file union members who seek election to public office through the Labor Candidates Program. Working in partnership with the Central Labor Councils and all affiliated unions, 11 union members were elected to their local school board yesterday. Since the program’s inception, rank-and-file union members have won 603 elections to public office in New Jersey.
