Health Care Reform Corrections Bill Clears House and Senate

Following the President’s historic signing of health care reform legislation on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, unions understood that there was still more work to be done in Congress to improve the final health care package. This involved passing the House Reconciliation Bill. Developed as a result of continuous union advocacy and negotiations between the White House, national AFL-CIO, and several international unions, the House Reconciliation Bill, or corrections bill, was drafted to ensure that reform provides strong protections to insurance consumers, lowers prescription drug costs for seniors, establishes measures to reduce health care costs, and is not funded on the backs of working families.

Unions were determined to see health care reform to its finish and on Thursday, March 25, 2010, both the House and Senate passed the corrections bill. We thank all who dedicated their time and efforts over the past year to reach our goal of comprehensive reform. Without your hard work, none of this would have been possible. This package is a major step in the right direction and we must continue to work in the coming years to ensure that we harness its potential.

The bill is now on the President’s desk awaiting his signature.
