Call the White House Now to Demand Results
Please call the White House at (202) 456-1414 or (202) 456-1111 and insist that nominees, Craig Becker and Mark Pearce, be appointed to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) without delay. The President has the authority to make these appointments without obstruction during the President’s Day recess which will end on Sunday, February 21, 2010. Thus far, President Obama has brokered a deal with the Republicans that would prevent these appointments from being made in turn for 27 non-controversial appointments.
Please highlight the following points during your call:
· For over two years, only two of the five NLRB positions have been filled. Workers need an NLRB that can protect workers’ rights, not an NLRB handicapped by vacancies.
· Workers are tired of waiting. It is time for the President to make good on his campaign promise to defend workers’ rights.
· President Bush appointed three management lawyers to the NLRB and they were approved unanimously by a voice vote in November 2002.
· President Obama’s nominees, Craig Becker and Mark Pearce are highly-qualified, well-respected labor lawyers who are prepared to carry out the responsibility of the NLRB.
It is time for the White House to live up to its promise to protect the interests of working people. President Obama’s inauguration was 13 months ago, and ever since that day, the only agenda to move forward has been that of the insurance companies, Wall Street bankers, and the far-right. This administration came up empty on health care reform, the Employee Free Choice Act, and its pledge to stem the jobs crisis. Working people are fed up, and rightfully so.
Now the White House is ready to back down from its two nominees for the NLRB, Craig Becker and Mark Pearce, which were both made seven months ago. This is unacceptable and working people need to remind the White House of that fact.
