Labor Campaign Kick-Off

With the endorsements of candidates running for the State Senate and the General Assembly behind us, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO has launched the Labor 2007 program designed to empower union voters to make informed decisions at the polls in November and elect pro-working family candidates who will represent us in Trenton.

While many take advantage of the slow summer months to get away on vacation or catch up with work that has piled up all year, Labor 2007 has been using this time to update union voter records and increase voter registration. Having up-to-date and accurate lists is one of the keys to the past success of our program and we encourage you to support our efforts by contacting John Shea, COPE Director, at 609-989-8730.

Campaign Kick-off meetings were held July 23 and 24 for the races of Nelson Albano, UFCW 152, running for re-election to the Assembly in the 1st District, John Amodeo, IUOE 825, running for Assembly in the 2nd District and Wayne DeAngelo, IBEW 269, running for Assembly in the 14th District. In addition to reviewing the Labor 2007 10-point plan, which includes a goal of increasing voter registration by 25% among union voters, all affiliates with members in these districts were asked to designate campaign coordinators, begin distributing worksite flyers, consider releasing staff to work full time on these campaigns through Election Day.

For more information about these races, or the Labor 2007 program, please contact John Shea, COPE Director at 609-989-8730.
