13th Annual Labor Candidate School Provides Union Members with Cutting Edge Education on Campaign Planning and Execution

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO Labor Candidates Program has helped 551 union members win election to public office since its inception in 1997. And on November 3, 2009, we will continue the success of this nationally renowned candidate education program by electing a record number of labor candidates, who are all currently activating and gearing up their campaigns for Election Day. There are 65 union members participating in the Labor Candidates Program this year representing 49 local unions.

The 13th Annual Labor Candidate School, which was held at the Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center from August 15-16, 2009, is an essential education tool for each year’s slate of labor candidates. The program provides participants with the most up-to-date and effective campaign strategies and gives union members the skills they will need to succeed in the political arena.

This year’s program included interactive presentations on subjects such as message development, campaign planning, campaign research, and featured a special workshop with Congressman Frank Pallone which focused on message delivery. During the workshop, Congressman Pallone demonstrated and provided individual feedback to all participants on how to improve and sharpen their campaign messaging.

We thank all the labor candidates who participated in the Labor Candidate School and commend them for the time and effort they are dedicating to making sure that the voices of working families are heard all across New Jersey. Additionally, we thank all our brothers and sisters that helped to organize this year’s program and express our sincere appreciation for this year’s outstanding group of presenters and guest speakers.
