EDUCATION AND TRAINING DEPARTMENT
Created in June 1997, the NJ State AFL-CIO's Department of Education & Training provides technical assistance to affiliates interested in establishing or up-grading an education and training program.
The Department's ongoing projects include:
-
coordinating union participation in the state's Youth Transition to Work program;
-
developing a wider range of labor education courses in the state, both credit and non-credit, in cooperation with the Rutgers Labor Education Center;
-
monitoring the work of the state's Rapid Response Team, which is charged with providing on-site services to workers who have lost their jobs due to downsizing, mergers, or plant closings; and,
-
providing technical assistance to affiliates interested in applying for grants from local, state, or federal agencies to establish or up-grade an education and training program, whether jointly with employers or on their own.
