The New Jersey State AFL-CIO recently testified before the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to support the PSE&G Energy Strong Program, a five-year $3.9 billion program that will fund important upgrades to our state’s energy infrastructure and result in a more reliable energy grid during times of crisis.
New Jersey State AFL-CIO Testifies in Support of PSE&G Energy Strong Program
The Energy Strong Program would add as many as 5,800 new jobs according to PSE&G’s estimates, benefitting both our state’s working families and our economy. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO views this program as a win-win scenario not only for union members in regard to the creation of good paying jobs and future safety upgrades, but also for our state’s residents and businesses who depend on consistent energy services and quick power restoration so as to avoid the lengthy outages that were seen during Superstorm Sandy.
In regard to union members, we recognize PSE&G has a long history of employing members of organized labor, both for their ongoing operations and for their constructions projects. As the largest electric and gas utility in the state, when the company succeeds, its workers succeed.
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO will continue to work to ensure that our state’s energy infrastructure is better able to withstand future storms, and we believe that being fully prepared must be a top priority for our state government.
