With deep regrets, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO would like to inform you that Helen Verhage peacefully passed away this last Sunday, June 11th, in her home at the age of 88.
For over 40 years she served in the New Jersey Department of Labor, generously sharing her time and experience with union sisters and brothers as well as with the community. She also served as President of the Somerset County Central Labor Council before it merged with the Middlesex County Central Labor Council, becoming the first woman CLC president in the state. Helen was a wonderful leader in the labor movement and we are deeply saddened by her passing. Friends of Helen can visit on Thursday, June 15th, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset NJ. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16th, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Peter & Paul Byzantine Church in Somerset.
