The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is proud to recognize the efforts of Congressman Frank LoBiondo (R-02), who is working alongside a bipartisan group of legislators to expand apprenticeship and job training opportunities for workers. The bill, called the Apprenticeship and Jobs Training Act of 2017, would create a $5,000 tax credit available to employers that hire individuals enrolled in a federal or state apprenticeship program.
The program expands opportunities for apprentices to learn and earn while gaining relevant on-the-job experience. The value of the tax credit is based on a rate of $3 for every hour worked by an apprentice with at least seven months experience. Veterans would be able to apply their previous experience towards education hours so they can be put to use more quickly.
Congressman LoBiondo’s efforts to champion bipartisan solutions that benefit working people demonstrates the type of leadership that is sorely needed in Washington. We applaud him as well as his colleagues on both sides of the aisle for taking steps to close the skills gap in America and for making strategic investments to educate and prepare the next generation of workers for success in their careers.
