The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers of New Jersey (BAC/ADC) will hold a demonstration on July 7th and 8th to demand that LCOR, the developer behind Montclair’s “Valley and Bloom Project”, keep its promise to create union jobs with the $800 million in funding they received from California teachers’ unions.
Despite a contractual agreement with the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), which administers retirement benefits for California’s public school educators, LCOR has reneged on its promise to build union and is currently utilizing non-union labor. Therefore, we are asking you to help us in the two following ways:
- First, make a call to CalSTRS CEO Jack Ehnes (916) 414-2200. Inform Mr. Ehnes that, LCOR has not honored its obligation to California’s teachers, and urge him to do everything in his power to compel LCOR to abide by its contract and use union pension dollars to create union jobs.
- Secondly, we ask you to join for a demonstration at the following place and time to stand up for good union jobs and respect for California teachers.
Date: |
July 7 & 8, 2014 |
Time: |
8:00 a.m. |
Place:
|
Valley and Bloom Project Site |
Besides failing to honor its contract with CalSTRS, this developer’s choice of non-union labor further demonstrates its disrespect towards workers and the community. We must stand in solidarity, not only to make LCOR keep its word to the California teachers, but also to ensure that the jobs we create here in New Jersey support a middle class standard of living and carry the stamp of skilled union labor. Join with us to show your support and solidarity. Wear your union colors; show your union pride!
