It is nothing short of appalling that GOP leadership in Congress has spent months fighting tooth-and-nail to pass a bill that cuts taxes on Big Businesses and the wealthy while taking a hatchet to the financial futures of millions of middle class Americans. This deficit-ballooning boondoggle will have adverse ramifications on the country and New Jersey for decades to come, and it is shameful that this matter of the utmost national significance was passed in such a partisan and rushed way.
We thank both of our U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker for voting to oppose this bill and recognize their dedication to doing what is right, not just for New Jersey, but also for the nation as a whole.
While both the U.S. House and Senate have passed their respective versions of the bill, both chambers will have to reconcile their differences and pass identical versions of the bill before it can be signed into law.
The GOP leadership should realize that a bill, which puts their top political donors before the middle class, is a long-term losing strategy for their party and for America. We sincerely hope that they come to this realization before it’s too late. As organized labor, we will continue to do everything in our power to advance a plan that puts working families first.
